Tree of Life
Everything materialized begins with a thought. Insightful thoughts usually come to mind in time when we are ready to perceive and transform them into our practical life.
In 2016, walking on the beautiful South African beaches, my thoughts were always interrupted by broken glass bottles lying everywhere. Of course, it upsets and makes one angry towards those who litter. I know it will take years, if not decades, for the collective mindset to change. Meanwhile, I could only be a silent witness of ignorance which eventually helped me to direct my artistic vision into creating art of awareness.
The idea that came to me at the time was not new at all, but for me in those circumstances it was quite an insightful moment to turn the broken glass pieces into art mosaic. The glass bottles colours were green, brown and transparent. Those colours made me think of creating a tree.
A Tree of Life!
It was an amazing journey of transformation where I was finally a joyful witness to sharp glass pieces which travelled from the beach to its final destination on a wooden board. The composition revealed itself as a harmonic symbol of sustainability. Again, my art was guiding me on the path I needed take in my public art career. A year later, in 2017, it developed into a new public art project Fruit Garden.
